I'm just not really dedicated to any one thing. Like, I'm decently good at my hobbies but it's not any kind of notable talent and nothing that I'll ever try and see through to make a career out of.
I don't have any aspirations.
[Why did he even say that much? Cater frowns at himself, but he's already sent the text, so no taking it back now. This was why he shouldn't message people at the witching hour.]
But you have focus and dedication. You're definitely going to be a professional and make a name for yourself.
[He was a joke and he knew it...but he couldn't let his own cynicism override the fact that Kageyama had said something very kind. Cater takes a breath before continuing to give a proper...somewhat less miserable-than-he-actually-felt response.]
Thanks for saying that. Anything could happen in the future, right?
Free as a bird! 😉 Who knows where the wind will take me next LOL.
[He hates it, actually. He feels the opposite of free--but of course he's not going to admit that, especially not to someone who seems to think so highly of him.]
As long as we're both here, I'm happy to help you embrace ur inner CARPE DIEM
[Cater doesn't bother changing out of his pajamas, just slips on an extra layer to combat the cold and tucks himself into some shoes. He has a moment of reflection as he's doing so--that maybe it wasn't the wisest idea to do this, to go over to a boy's house in the middle of the night when he was clearly catching feelings...
But, well, yolo. Consequences were for future Cater to deal with.
He knows where the traps are laid around the house, but he's still careful and takes his time getting past them. It's possible that Rook might wake up hearing him sneaking out...but figures the guy won't actually judge him for it. Once he's in the clear, he shoves his hands in his pockets and walks at a hurried pace until he reaches Kageyama's door, knocking softly.]
[ Kageyama doesn't know what he was thinking. It's not like he's not used to being alone, even more so since coming here. But talking to Cater just makes him want to see Cater. He opens the door in sweatpants and t-shirt, feeling a little cagey. Just maybe his anxiety is showing with cat ears. Sometimes he can't quite control it completely.
But he opens the door when the other knocks, letting him in quickly. ]
[Maybe it's just a reflexive behavior, but regardless of the shifting energies in their text exchange, Cater's full energy as soon as Kageyama opens the door. He sweeps inside, rubbing his arms.]
Whew! It is cold out there! Winter vibes are fun and all for a bit but I'm ready for springtime.
[That's when his eyes shift up and he notices the cat ears poking out from that dark patch of hair on the taller teen's head. He flashes a grin.]
If I didn't know better I'd think that you were startled to see me.
[ Kageyama says and the door is closed quickly to keep too much cold air from getting in. His cheeks go red when the other looks up and he knows what he's looking at. He glances to the side and then turns tail. ]
[ Kageyama didn't really mind the drink but it was the middle of the night so he hadn't even thought of coffee. both can be had with milk so he finds them equal more or less. He bites his lip briefly as he's moving to the little kitchen to start making two cups of hot chocolate for them both. ]
One of two...?
[ He can handle making hot chocolate himself, though! ]
[He's hoping that Kageyama gets the message without Cater being any more explicit. In the meantime he'll lean against the kitchen doorway while the hot chocolate is being made.]
[ He's welcoming having his back to Cater for the time being as milk is heated and then everything is mixed together. He doesn't have any marshmallows or peppermint to add so it'll just be a simple affair. ]
[It's a good thing that Kageyama's back is to him, because he doesn't see the way that Cater's expression goes blank. Outside of his incessant flirting, he had his reservations on whether or not this was a good idea. Cater was certainly willing to crawl into bed with the other teen, but...did he want to? Did the potential risks outweigh the immediate payoff?]
[ Kageyama stays quiet as he finishes, trying to get his thoughts in order but he really didn't know what to think. ]
I... don't know. I didn't have any expectations. I just guess I'm... glad to see you.
[ He is so bad with words and expressing his emotions. He's been working for a long time now on talking to people and trying to understand others better. But Cater is hard to read sometimes. ]
[ Kageyama's face gets a little pensive as he grabs his own mug. He leans against the kitchen counter and avoids eye contact. He's not sure what direction to move them in just yet. ]
It's not that good... did I make things weird for you?
[ He knows he'd basically admitted to liking Cater. ]
[This was absolutely not a conversation that Cater wanted to have. He takes a breath, trying to decide if he wants to continue to blow off the topic, but...well, he'd come here, hadn't he? He owed it to Kageyama to at least be a bit more straightforward.]
No, you didn't.
[Cater keeps his voice as light as possible, to try and keep things casual even as they delve into a subject that could get very uncomfortable very quickly.]
I like you. I'm just not looking to get into a relationship. I don't want to mislead you, if that's what you're hoping for.

[One just involved him being careful of his weird housemate's traps in the dark.]

Now? You really wouldn't mind?

[There certainly weren't as many options, these days.]

Do... you want some hot chocolate...

[He preferred coffee to hot chocolate, but the drink was more rich than sweet so ultimately he didn't mind it.]
Sounds like one of two perfect ways to warm up. Anything I can do to help?

Do you, though?

I don't have any problems fooling around, but I'd hate to do anything that might strain our friendship.
[He takes a careful sip. It's hot, but good, and immediately helps banish some of the lingering chill from outside.]
Mmm! This may be the best hot chocolate I've ever had.
